This was his first play. It is an anti-war drama done in an expressionistic style. As the play opens, we find a group of soldiers on burial detail. Suddenly, after the bodies have been placed in the graves, one of the dead soldiers stands up. Following that, the rest of the soldiers stand up along side of him. The live soldiers are, at first, awe struck, but when the corpses begin talking they soon enter into a dialog with them. The thing of it is that the dead soldiers refuse to be buried.
